We are thrilled to announce the  2022 Erminie Cohen Compassion Award Recipient: Dr Elaine Deschênes

The New Brunswick Adoption Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the annual Erminie Cohen Compassion Award: Dr. Élaine Deschênes

Honouring the legacy of the Late Erminie Joy Cohen, C.M., O.N.B, the New Brunswick Adoption Foundation founding Chairperson, this award was created to promote awareness of children in need of families, celebrate Erminie's legacy and caring contribution to so many causes, and to recognize individuals who exemplify the similar passion and dedication that she demonstrated for children without families in New Brunswick.

Recipients of the Erminie Cohen Compassion Award are chosen based on their outstanding contribution to the welfare and well-being of children, youth, and/or families in New Brunswick as well as their ability to inspire and be a catalyst or mentor for the engagement of others.

Dr. Deschênes founded the Southeast Social Pediatric Centre in Memramcook after inspiring and rallying many key stakeholders from both the private and public sectors. Under her leadership and through a community-based approach, the Southeast centre now assists children and families in vulnerable situations.

In support of her nomination, Estelle Lanteigne, Director of the Réseau-action, Service Organization
"Dr. Élaine's dedication has never wavered over the years, and she has always put the children and their families at the forefront of this initiative.  Rarely have we seen a service model in our field that is so responsive, effective, accessible, and community-based.  The central role that Dr. Élaine Deschênes has played (and continues to play) in the implementation of this service model will have an impact on multiple generations of children in New Brunswick, making the future brighter. "

Social pediatrics reaches out directly to vulnerable children and families to provide them with the care and services they need. A social pediatrics centre is a safe, accessible, and welcoming space located within the community it serves.

The Foundation will be recognizing Dr. Deschênes at the 20th anniversary celebration,  Seeds of Compassion" Garden party, on Sunday, June 5 at Kingsbrae Gardens in Saint Andrews.
