The New Brunswick Adoption Foundation is delighted to announce that Cindy Hornibrook Doucet is the recipient of the prestigious 2024 Erminie Cohen Compassion Award. Under the theme “Cups of Compassion”, our Lieutenant Governor and Honorary Patron of the New Brunswick Adoption Foundation, the Honourable Brenda Murphy, will be hosting a reception at the Government House in Fredericton on June 23, 2024, at 2 p.m. 

This award, named in memory of the late Erminie Joy Cohen, C.M., O.N.B., founding Chairperson of the foundation, is presented annually to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the welfare and well-being of children, youth, and families in New Brunswick. Recipients also inspire others to get involved, acting as catalysts and mentors within the community. 

This year's recipient, Cindy Hornibrook Doucet, an exceptional foster and adoptive parent, has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the well-being of children and has had a profound impact on their lives. As a foster parent, Cindy has compassionately and tirelessly supported numerous children on their journey toward finding a permanent and loving family they can call their own. 

Cindy has exemplified her commitment to permanency

• guiding children on their journey to their adoptive homes, ensuring their well-being, and helping to establish lasting connections.

• supporting new adoptive families as children transition from her home to theirs

• supporting birth families in resuming their role as caregivers to their children whenever possible

• advocating for kinship care

• as an adoptive family

Cindy has gone above and beyond in her role as a foster parent, helping children heal from trauma, maintaining sibling connections, and holding compassion for biological families. Her dedication to the well-being of children and families in need has been truly inspiring, and her impact on the community has been profound. She has also served as a mentor to many and is a shining example of compassion and dedication in the field of foster care and adoption, setting a wonderful example of how foster care should be approached and supporting all individuals involved in the child's well-being.
