We acknowledge that we carry out our work on the traditional unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik, Miākmaq, and Peskotomuhkati peoples. This territory is covered by the āTreaties of Peace and Friendshipā which these nations first signed with the British Crown in 1726. The treaties did not deal with the surrender of lands and resources, but recognized Miākmaq and Wolastoqiyik titles and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.
We, the staff and members of the board, pay respect to the elders, past and present, and descendants of this land. We honor the knowledge keepers and seek their guidance as we strive to develop closer relationships with the Indigenous people in New Brunswick. As an organization focused on vulnerable children in the care system, we express these words with both humility and hope.
